Kenya: Elephant Trapped In Mud For Twelve Hours Dramatically Rescued By Digger

The young male and very distressed elephant were trapped in a mud pit on farmland bordering Chyulu Hills National Park in Kenya. Locals found the elephant but were unable to help the big animal. After some twelve hours they got help from wildlife conservationists and the local construction company JCB, who used their digger to plough the elephant to safety. At scene were also conservation scientist and wildlife photographer Jeremy Goss, who filmed the drama.

He said: “It was heartbreaking to see the elephant in the well, particularly because the community had not been very keen or able to help it out.
